VANDA arrives on Polar+, Lionsgate+ and Special Broadcast Service
The drama series Vanda has been acquired for broadcast by Canal+ Group for the POLAR+ channel in France, by the LIONSGATE+ streaming platform in Brazil, and by the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) television station in Australia, announced production company Legendary Entertainment.
"We are very pleased to have found such suitable homes for Vanda around the world," said Legendary's Sam Kozhaya. "This series and the structure of its distribution demonstrate the success of our local language productions and our growing international structure." This series is a co-production between SPi (Portugal), Legendary Entertainment (USA) and La Panda (Spain).
Based on real events, "Vanda" tells the story of a woman who, in the middle of the 2008 financial crisis - after finding herself alone, broke, and with two children to raise - began to carry out several bank robberies, using a wig so as not to be recognized, and a fake gun. She was called the "Black Widow," and was eventually caught and sentenced to seven years in prison.
Vanda was created by Patrícia Müller and directed by Simão Cayatte, with special collaboration from Spanish director Elia Urquiza. The cast includes Gabriela Barros (Vanda, our protagonist), João Baptista (Mário), Joana de Verona (Elisa), Isabél Zuaa (Mónica), Pedro Casablanc (Eremita), and Raúl Prieto (Gonzalo), among others.
Made up of eight 50-minute episodes, "Vanda" has been available in Portugal on the OPTO/SIC platform since March 2022.
