The construction of a character's image
Viewer demand has been increasing due to the massive broadcasting of fiction projects on television channels or streaming platforms, and SP Televisão is constantly trying to meet consumer expectations in every detail when creating its projects.
The creation of characters is one of the key points for their authenticity, in order to make them as real as possible, with whom viewers can immediately identify.
In addition to the story, a good character is the basis for the success of a soap opera or series.
In the telenovela Broken Promise, the creation of the characters' image is the responsibility of Rita Lameiras, who coordinates the closet team, and Nuxa (Ana Araújo), who is in charge of the characterization team.
The work of designing the closet is closely linked to that of the make-up and hair, as both recognize, since “they complement each other in order to build a believable character.”
Rita Lameiras prepares her work in prior meetings with the project coordinator, to understand the idea and the language, followed by reading the episodes and then starting the research work with the actors to build each character.
This work is almost identical to that of Nuxa, who then works with the characterization team (hairdressers and make-up artists) who transform each actor's image into their character.
Nuxa admits that the characterization work is the most demanding, again closely linked to the closet.
Aging an actor or making him younger, making him look sick or tired, for example, is a job that requires the participation of other professionals and the use of materials.
When designing the closet, Rita Lameiras has a team that includes an assistant, with whom she discusses ideas, a seamstress and a closet manager, who ensures that each actor's closet is organized so that “everything is just right on the shoot.”
Both professionals have successful careers.
Rita Lameiras studied fashion design at IADE and began her career in the field at the production company MULTICENA. She has worked on dozens of fiction projects, including several period series, “which she loves doing.”
At SP Televisão, she has worked mainly on telenovelas.
Nuxa studied Arts, Design and Painting at ARCO and came to make-up thanks to a painting job. After a specific course in her current field, she worked in advertising and has been at SP Televisão for 17 years.
These two areas are essential in the production of any fiction project and are entrusted to two professionals who guarantee the quality that is the hallmark of SP Televisão.
