Successful week for the series THE MEDALISTS
THE MEDALISTS series, produced by SP Televisão for SIC's streaming platform, OPTO, won two prestigious international awards this week.
At the New York Festival - TV & Film Awards, with the Bronze medal in the Streaming Drama category and at the World Media Festivals as the best Series in the Entertainment, Children & Youth category.
The New York Festivals TV & Film Awards is one of the most important festivals in the audiovisual market and its aim is to reward television formats in different categories, authors, directors and to choose the television station of the year. For the past 24 years, the World Media Festivals has honored the excellence of audiovisual producers worldwide. The focus of this competition is to reward the best productions in the fields of information, education and entertainment. The World Media Festivals take place in Hamburg and are among the most important events in this sector.
THE MEDALISTS series joins other SP Televisão projects that have already won awards at these two events, namely Timeless Love, The Secret, Star Hill and Wild Land from SP Televisão, and the series Codex 632 and Motel Valkirias from SPi.The distinction of two renowned international awards helps to position Portuguese fiction and the productions of SP Televisão and SIC among the best in the world once again.
The series explores the competitive world behind the scenes of sport, following a group of young athletes from the Monsanto High Performance Academy. The main cast includes Joana Cravo, João Maneira, João Bettencourt and Paula de Magalhães, with special appearances from well-known actors such as Paula Lobo Antunes, Luís Esparteiro and Custódia Gallego.
The first season, of 26 episodes, premiered on OPTO on December 29, 2023 and, in 2024, was also made available on the Prime Video platform, expanding its reach at an international level.
