Synopsis
NEAR DISTANCE
The distance between what you need and what you have is getting bigger...
Portugal wakes up in shock with the news of an aeroplane crash by a national airline. Everything points to an attack, but then the Portuguese reality shifts overnight.
While the world falls apart around her, Júlia questions everything. She wonders if it is worth it to sacrifice so much for the sake of her family, as she nearly lost her daughter Cristina, who was late for her flight and is now dubbed by the media as the sole survivor. But suspicion grows in social media: could she know what was about to happen?
Carlos, Cristina’s stepfather, is a desperate man. He’s having an affair with Ana and their intimacy only serves to make him feel increasingly distant from the man he’d wish to be. He has nothing to give to a country that has little to give him in return either. Pedro, Cristina’s teenage brother, wants to step up as the man of the house at a point where his family, like the country itself, is falling apart. Grandpa Afonso, a retired watchmaker, still speaks with his late wife, as he feels closer to her than to the living.
Cristina’s boyfriend João is a suspect of having been somehow responsible for the plane crash. He lives with his grandmother Lurdes, who acts more oblivious than she actually is as she hears the suspicious conversations between her grandson and Martim, their house guest.
