When Fátima, a young girl from the Portuguese highlands, meets Tomás, a mountain rescuer who has just returned from the Alps, the two instantly fall in love. What Fátima doesn’t know is that Tomas is engaged to her teenage rival, Mariana, and that he’ll be blackmailed to stay away from Fátima.

Fátima's brother Artur is at odds with the Pereira Espinho family, the wealthiest and most influential living in the mountain. After a stormy night, Artur is found dead under suspicious circumstances. Fátima is devastated by the loss of her brother and their father's imprisonment but will seek justice, even if she has to go against the powerful Pereira Espinho family. However, Fátima uncovers a terrible secret involving not only the village where she lives but Mariana’s own mother, Carlota. Fátima then sees herself standing in the way of this overbearing and unscrupulous woman, who has everything to lose with Fátima's investigations.
