The Tejo Hospital is a private institution with not a few years of existence, owned by a powerful investment group that is in other business areas besides healthcare. The lack of financial results in the neo-natal unit led them to cut spending, which resulted in serious technical and organizational problems, along with an overall sense of helplessness by healthcare workers in face of an administrative business strategy that would rather shut the unit down.

Madalena, a brilliant obstetrician, is forced to trade her job at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the country, in which she had a shot at running their Obstetrics unit, for a private Maternity on the verge of being forcibly shut down. Leading a team of unmotivated professionals and with little strength to fight the inevitable shut-down, Madalena will have the strenuous task of giving them back their professional pride and motivation to, against all odds, turn the Maternity into a top institution.
