When love overcomes revenge...

Rodrigo was only eight years old when his life took a sharp turn. His parents owned the Wild Land Estate, where Eduarda worked as a secretary. She was an extremely ambitious woman who ended up getting involved with her employer Vicente and eventually getting pregnant by him. However, things didn’t turn out as she expected, as he refused to leave his wife Teresa or even acknowledge this child as his own.

As payback, Eduarda has her employers’ son kidnapped and demands a ransom, but Vicente is shot during the transaction and dies. Eduarda keeps the ransom money to herself and Rodrigo is sold to an international human trafficking network, out of which he is able to escape. Eduarda buys the estate and seduces Francisco, who accepts marrying her and fathering her children Beatriz and Afonso. Meanwhile, Rodrigo ends up living on the streets and is grabbed by the authorities, who bring him back to Portugal, where he meets Carlos, a police inspector. After telling him that his mother has died, Carlos decides to adopt him. Even though he is just a child, Rodrigo vows to have his revenge and decides to change his name to Diogo.
